Original “Amos ‘n’ Andy” debuts on Chicago radio

On January 12, 1926, the two-man comedy series “Sam ‘n’ Henry” debuts on Chicago’s WGN radio station. Two years later, after changing its name to “Amos ‘n’ Andy,” the show becomes one of the most popular radio programs in American history.

The original Amos and Andy TV show debuts, Hattie Caraway is the first woman elected to the Senate and the Columbia spacecraft if piloted by Charlie Bolden who is the first black shuttle pilot on This Day in History video. The day is January 12. Congress voted to make Iraq leave Kuwait on this day as well.
